Context

Peter Kogler was one of the first artists of his generation to start experimenting with computers. The new technical innovations made it possible to transfer recurring significant motifs – such as the brain, globe, ants or networks – to image carriers and to develop modular systems.

About Peter Kogler

Peter Kogler, born in Innsbruck, Austria in 1959, is a visionary artist who has revolutionised the world of immersive installations. This Austrian maestro began his artistic journey experimenting with painting and experimental filmmaking, but it was his embrace of computer technology in 1984 that truly set him apart. Kogler's mind-bending creations transform ordinary spaces into psychedelic wonderlands, using intricate projections and paintwork to warp reality. A pioneer in computer-generated art, Kogler's career spans over three decades, during which he has continually pushed the boundaries of design and depth. His signature style involves repetitive patterns of brains, ants, globes, and tube-like structures that create disorienting, labyrinthine environments. These installations, often accompanied by sound, challenge viewers' perceptions and blur the lines between architecture and art. Kogler's talent has earned him international acclaim, with his work featured at prestigious events like the Venice Biennale and Documenta. He's also left his mark on public spaces, including subway stations and railway terminals. When not creating mind-boggling installations, Kogler shares his expertise as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
