Context

The iconic crocodile of the well-known luxury brand is Luke Velten’s anti-snobbish take on a lifestyle that places too much emphasis on etiquette and distinction. The inverted S is a recurring feature of his distinctive signature and contains no value judgment. However, the artist would like to take up the cudgels for a society based on solidarity, in which inclusion is a high priority. The proceeds from the sale will benefit projects that are dedicated to the creative support of mentally diverse people.

About Luke Velten

Luke Velten, born in 2007 in Berlin, is a rising star in the city's vibrant art. This young prodigy's work defies traditional categorisation, blending elements of Art Brut with contemporary urban aesthetics. Velten's artistic journey began in his ‘Medroha’ – his personal creative sanctuary. His multifaceted approach encompasses painting, filmmaking, baking, and T-shirt design, reflecting a boundless imagination that refuses to be confined.
Known for his bold, unfiltered expression, Velten's creations echo the raw energy of Art Brut while incorporating playful modern twists. His “Revisions”, including works with Claus-Otto Paeffgen, showcase his ability to bridge generational gaps in the art world and refer relationally to other artists. Velten's ambitious projects, such as his dream of baking a giant heart, demonstrate his desire to push artistic boundaries. His fearless attitude and unique perspective on when a piece is “finished” set him apart as a true original in Berlin's art community. With his mantra “because it's great” driving his creative pursuits, Luke Velten is undoubtedly an artist to watch in the coming years.

Fun fact

Luke Velten is the son of WORKS ON SKIN founder and speaker Holm Friebe. However, this did not influence the team's democratic deliberative vote in favor of his motif.
