Context

Lukas Troberg's 'Drips' works are a profound expression of (suppressed) language and rebellion. Although at first glance they are reminiscent of the shapes and colours of graffiti, Troberg's research and artistic vision go far beyond that. The inspiration for these works is rooted, among other things, in his origins, a history marked by deprivation and the struggle for identity. Much of Troberg's Jewish family was stripped of their language and identity in Nazi Germany. This has become deeply embedded in the collective memory and also shapes Troberg's own life and work.

Instructions

“Drips” is derived from a series of wall sculptures that again refers to a horizontal spray can stroke and the typical drips that might occur. The motif goes like a ring around the desired body part (leg, arm, neck, chest, stomach) and ends only with the small gap as shown in the drawing.

About Lukas Troberg

Lukas Troberg's work is characterized by an experimental, mostly political discourse with the themes of language and communication. His poem-like works range from multi-lines and single words to complete abstraction, for example through the partial or complete erasure of texts, which makes them all the more visible. He started off as a street artist and his works – as our motif – often draw from or refer to this culture, although becoming ever more abstract and formalistic. Since April 2024, Troberg has held a one-year scholarship at the Villa Concordia in Bamberg, which he received from the state of Bavaria in recognition of his oeuvre. Together with Dominik Annies, he has been running ‘Studio Troberg Annies’ since 2021, which received its initial impetus from winning a competition for the new design of the Austrian Monument Protection Medal.

Fun fact

Lukas Troberg has been a signed work by Timm Ulrichs since 2011. During a workshop at the Vienna Art Academy on the subject of tattoos, Timm signed him himself with a tattoo needle on his inner lower lip.
