Context

Isabelle Borges always does a lot of drawings before starting any piece. The drains are all based on structures she finds in nature, specifically on the reflections of a lake in the surroundings of Berlin. She looks for hidden figures, lost poems, faces, places. The space between the lines, the voice that holds the whole thing together. She likes playing with those ideas, of finding a letter, a case, a figure dancing. Many paths in a garden of possibilities. Just have fun imagining your interpretation of the work.

About Isabella Borges

Isabelle Borges, born in 1966 in Salvador, Brazil, is a dynamic artist whose journey has taken her from the vibrant streets of Rio de Janeiro to the cutting-edge art scene of Berlin. After studying Social Sciences in Brasilia, Borges immersed herself in the world of visual arts at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage in Rio. In 1993, she made a bold move to Germany, where she honed her craft under the tutelage of renowned artists like Antonio Dias and Sigmar Polke. From 1995 to 1997, she studied at the Düsseldorf Academy with Christian Megert, further refining her artistic vision. Borges's artistic vision is a unique blend of Brazilian Neo-Concrete influences and European abstract traditions, exploring the geometry of spaces and the dynamics between forms. Her work, ranging from paintings to installations, often draws inspiration from urban environments and natural structures, creating captivating visual rhythms that challenge perception. With numerous solo exhibitions across Europe and Brazil, Borges has established herself as a significant voice in contemporary abstract art, continuously pushing the boundaries of form and space in her Berlin studio.
