About Christian Achenbach
Christian Achenbach (born 1978 in Siegen, Germany) is a Berlin-based sculptor and painter known for his dynamic reinterpretations of 20th-century art movements through a fresh postmodern lens. After studying at the Berlin University of the Arts under Burkhard Held, Daniel Richter, and Anselm Reyle, he graduated as a master student in 2007. Achenbach’s work draws from his love of music, merging explosive colors, blurred outlines, and geometric forms into compositions that evoke a synesthetic blend of sound and image—a connection often compared to Kandinsky’s approach. His paintings and sculptures eschew central motifs, instead featuring rhizomatic patterns that nod to Modernism, Cubism, and Dadaism. Achenbach has exhibited internationally, participated in residencies in Copenhagen and Switzerland, and co-founded the “Artistweekend” group and the “NGORONGORO” exhibition series. His vibrant, layered works continue to challenge and reframe perceptions of modern and postmodern art.
