About Alicia Valladares
Alicia Valladares, a rising star in the Mexican art scene, has made waves with her innovative approach to cultural commentary. Growing up in the early 1990s in Mexico, Valladares got in touch during that period with many popular global brands. This unique cultural landscape would later become the foundation of her artistic practice. Collaborating with Fernando Gress Muñoz, Valladares explores the intersection of consumer culture, spirituality and Latin American identity through large-scale inflatable sculptures. Her work, which often features tropicalised versions of iconic characters like Pikachu and Miffy, cleverly subverts the concept of licensed collectibles. By employing techniques reminiscent of Jeff Koons and anarchist architecture, Valladares creates pieces that are both visually striking and deeply thought-provoking. Her exhibition "FARM” in Summer 2024 at the MAZ in Zapopan was a landmark event in her career, showcasing her unique vision and technical prowess.
