Realized: René Holm - The only thing I trust AP1/100
Realized by: Maya Dew, Berlin, April 17th 2025 for Daniela von Arnim
One of the five tattoos realised by Maya Dew during the WORKS ON SKIN flight 2 launch party on 17 April landed on the left forearm of Daniela von Arnim (René Holm's: ‘the only thing I trust’). Daniela has been passionate about contemporary art and contemporary artists all her life. Together with her partner Reinald Nohal, who died in 2022, who ran the Berlin artists' restaurant Exil, later the Parisbar and single-handedly built a log cabin hotel in Klondyke on the Yukon (where, among other things, the first entrance to Martin Kippenberger's global underground railway network was built), Daniela ran the Berlin-Klondyke exhibition series for decades and organised group exhibitions in Lisbon, Maribor and above all Berlin - and thus promoted the careers of artists such as Jan Muche, Fritz Bornstück, Bettina Sellmann, Manfred Peckl, Ralf Ziervogel and many others. Shortly before her 60th birthday, Daniela treated herself - thoughtfully and in a prominent position - to this comforting motif by René Holm, who has long been one of her favourite artists (and would like to add another one by Isabelle Borges). The candle man sitting on a tree stump comes from a painting that is a key work in René's solo exhibition ‘Let me be your Everlasting Light’, which opens in early May 2025 at Galerie Franz Peddersen in Horsens, Denmark. Congratulations, Daniela and René. It is precisely for such improbable, life-changing and magical moments and encounters that we are organising the whole thing.
